Doppelgangers

It has come to my attention that there is a blog very similar to this one. It’s titled Blogger Beware and I found it as I was looking for a cover picture for Welcome to Dead House which, by the way, I finished a few minutes ago and will post a blog about later tonight. It seems like the person behind Blogger Beware has been in the game since 2006. Granted, it doesn’t seem like (s)he isn’t restricted to reading all the books in 97 days, but it’s similar enough. I haven’t read any of the articles to ensure I don’t jock any of their style, in case I do keep up with the project.

What do you think, folks? Should I keep it up, or just let this thing die a said, pitiful death right out of the gate.

Let me know @ kent.farago@gmail.com. Sorry, I don’t have comments enabled yet. At least I don’t think I do.

The first post

Day 1:

Days Left: 97

Books Left: 62

My first post. Does this post start off the tone of the entire blog/project? I hope not.

I guess I might as well start off explaining what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.

A couple of weeks ago I was joking (flirting?) with a friend and I told her that I had set a personal goal of reading all of the original Goosebumps ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goosebumps#List_of_books )novels by the time I turned 26. At the time I was completely kidding around - and unaware that there were 62 novels to be completed in just over 100 days - but after thinking about it for a few days I thought it would be a little bit of fun to revisit a series which, to most kids, was the pinnacle of children’s literature. How hard will it be to read these books, I wondered? I have an English degree for gosh sakes! I paid thousands of dollars to read long-winded, pretentious novels about nothing. I should be able to plow through these things like…well, Mr. Plow. After a little encouragement from friends and a viewing of Julie/Julia, I decided to do it. I was going to read the entire Goosebumps series.

The plan: I’m going to read through the books in chronological order, starting with Welcome to Dead House and ending with Monster Blood IV. This will only change if I can’t get a copy of certain book in time and need to move on to the next one for the sake of time. For full disclosure, I’ve read the first 16 books between grades 4-7(roughly), but I will still be reading them all again to remain true to the project.

So here it is. Day one of my project. 62 books, 97 days. That works out to a book every 1.6 days.

Will I be able to get through them all?

Will I be scared senseless or bored stupid?

Will the books stand the test of time or will my fond childhood memories be chalked up to nothing more than nostalgia?

I plan on finding out.
